Introducing The White Wall Rebellion!

I think we can all agree that a space full of plain, white walls is not the most exciting. It's just empty, unused space. There's nothing there to inspire or comfort or energize - it's the design equivalent of lettuce on white bread.

You may remember last month, I had the opportunity to team up with the a-MAH-zing Monica Mangin from East Coast Creative to help transform a nursery for former Bachelorette Desiree Seigfried and her husband Chris. Monica, being the design guru she is, created a space that would comfort and inspire - and what's more comforting and inspiring than words? That's where I came in. Check out this post to see what I mean.

It was a hit with the mom and dad to be. There were some definite happy tears. As we sipped coffee and munched on fig cake at a super adorable cafe nearby (The Fat Hen, for all you Seattle-ites), Monica mused that it would be great if we could help other folks looking for a change do the same thing with their space. And that's when White Wall Rebellion was born.

Here's what you'll need to start your rebellion.

Here's what you'll need to start your rebellion.

Monica and I have teamed up to create a DIY kit that will allow you - yes, YOU! - to create your very own calligraphy wall! Pretty kick-ass, right? Here's how it works. When you purchase a kit, you'll receive a template for a specific phrase, as well as detailed instruction manual for creating your own White Wall Rebellion. Don't have a projector? No problem! The kit includes an exclusive coupon code to get 20% off a weekend projector rental - the projector is shipped directly to your door with a return shipping label. Easy peasy!

Think it still sounds too difficult? Au contraire! Meet Kristyn. She had a blank wall in need of some lovin'.

She downloaded the kit and plugged her laptop into her projector. Don't have a laptop? Still, no problem! You can get a projector for use with your smart phone for less than $40 - or make your own for about $1!

Once she decided the perfect spot and a size for the design, she outlined the design in chalk. If your wall is what, consider using a very light pencil or colored chalk.

Once the chalk was down, it was time to paint! Kristyn used a smaller round brush (size 2) to outline the letters, and then a larger round brush (size 6) to fill it in.

After the design was completed, Kristyn went back in to make small adjustments and clean up rough areas. And the result is a professional quality mural that will stop visitors in their tracks!

There you have it - a dramatic transformation in as easy as one, two, three! And if you aren't quite ready to commit to painting directly on walls, you can use the template to paint the phases on large canvases, planked wood, tin sheets or anything else you can imagine - make it your own!

Need something a little more specific? Custom design orders are available! You send us the dimensions of your space along with the words you would like, and we'll create a template just for you. Want to skip the whole DIY part? I'm available to paint spaces directly! To learn more about custom designs and in-person painting, check out our custom page.

Are you ready for your rebellion? Get your own DIY Wall Art Kit today! We want to see how you rebels use these designs to transform your space - share pics of your finished projects on Instagram and use the hashtag #mywhitewallrebellion. Get to it, rebels!
